Everyone is aware of the trained dog’s potential
and the dangers of having dogs “ out of control “ and having a dog off lead, which is preferred by many
dog owners, the necessity of the dog walking at heel at the owners side ( off lead ) and not being
distracted by goings on around him, which make the dog unpredictable and occasionally and / or
potentially dangerous to passers - by, vehicle traffic, and other people’s pets.
A dog who is allowed to be off lead in a public place needs a high level of training and
control in order to be classed as a “ safe dog ”
A well trained dog should be aware and alert to his environment, happy to care only about
what his owner wants him to do and listen and obey his owners commands under all circumstances, without any
hesitation or thought of eg. Chasing a cat or breaking a stay , which can unfortunately, in some instances,
cause damage and/or injury to others.
Obedience gives the emotional stability that is vital to dogs in the presence of small,
unpredictable children, the elderly and frail, the blind person or person with a walking stick , wheelchair or
walking frame.
The dog needs to be dignified by usefulness, with proper motivations, that demonstrate the
adequacy of the owner, thus promoting the right response at times when control is most needed, as well as
contributing to the dogs feeling of security, happiness and confidence.
A dog that knows it’s boundaries is a dog that can be trusted and will react in the correct
way regardless of circumstances.
I hope you have found the above of interest to you and should you decide to go ahead with
your training of your dog, I look forward to hearing from you..
